Lubricant Aerosols & Sprays

Tribo-Tech’s lubricant aerosols & sprays offer a convenient and neat package of the ‘product’ and ‘means of application’ in a simple to use, efficient package.

Lubricants such as oils and greases are combined with a solvent/carrier solution and a propellant in a formula that allows the material to atomise and be applied in a thin layer. Once applied, the carrier will evaporate allowing the grease or oil to be left behind to lubricate the components.

Dry film lubricant coatings formulated into aerosols are essentially a ‘lubricating paint’ and are applied in a similar way, producing a change in it’s frictional properties and lubricity.

Greases & Gels

Our grease and gel lubricants extend from conventional mineral oil based lithium, calcium and barium greases through to synthetic oil based greases including polyurea, silicone and fluorinated greases for use in extreme high and low temperatures.

We also produce a range of greases with additives including EP (extreme pressure), anti-wear, anti-corrosion, anti-oxidant and non-melting thickeners.

We specialise in supplying food grade NSF H1 and 3H registered, non-toxic, food approved greases for use where there is risk of direct and indirect contact with food products, drinks, pharmaceuticals and food packaging.

Oils & Fluids

Oils can be subdivided and taking each in turn we can compare their merits as lubricating oils:-

Vegetable Oils are cheap and  biodegradable however they are naturally variable in quality, there is a limited range and they are unsuitable for extreme temperatures. They are also chemically unstable.

Mineral Oils (hydrocarbons) are derived from crude oil. They are relatively cheap, have moderate chemical stability and are available in many different grades, however, they are also unsuitable for extreme temperatures and are less biodegradable.

Dry Film Coatings

Essentially a bonded dry film lubricant is simply a dry lubricant dispersed in a binder and/or attached to a surface by an adhesive material, this is carried for application purposes in a solvent or carrier fluid which evapourates after application.

Bonded dry film lubricants can be thought of as high performance, paint-like coatings consisting of fine particles of dry lubricants blended with a binder and special additives. After application and curing, these lubricants bond to the substrate and form a solid film. The film reduces friction and increases wear life.

Dry film lubricants contain special materials that reduce friction and wear by preventing surface-to-surface contact between mating parts. Their performances vary depending on the specific lubricant used. Some offer excellent lubrication and corrosion protection, while others operate at high temperatures or under high loads.

Which Lubricant?

In simple terms a grease is a thickened oil, the thickener acts as a sponge to hold the oil in place. Under pressure the ‘sponge’ releases the oil film to lubricate the contacts.

Oils come in many different types, both mineral and synthetic, with different properties depending on their chemical make up. In a lubrication application the oil creates a sacrificial layer or film which shears and isolates the moving surfaces. Within oils different additives can be used to enhance their properties including their viscosity, viscosity index, oxidation resistance and corrosion protection.

A grease is based on a mineral or synthetic oil, thickened with a metallic soap or sometimes an absorbent particle, clay, silica or PTFE and the additives are either in the base oil or held within the matrix. Solid additives are also sometimes included to re-inforce the boundary lubrication properties of the material under extreme pressure.

Anti-seize & Pastes

Pastes are not greases but are a compound that are often mistaken for grease. They are generally composed of non-melting thickener, a base oil and a proportion of solid lubricants or soft metallic materials.

They offer separation of surfaces which allows them to prevent seizing of components such as nuts, bolts and other threaded fasteners.

Various solid lubricants are added depending on the requirement of the application, these include copper, aluminium, graphite, nickel, ceramics and lead.

Solvents & Degreasers

We offer solvents and degreasers for all industrial cleaning needs. Our SUPERSOLV 550 solvent based cleaner can be used as a general purpose cleaning agent for the removal of oil, grease and other contaminents from metal surfaces. We also have water based cleaners and degreasers such as our SUPERSOLV 450 W. These SUPERSOLV products are used to clean mould tools and other surfaces which require thorough degreasing. IKV also manufacture a range of fluorinated fluids exempt from O.D.P. (Ozone Depletion Potential) which can be used as a solvent or carrier fluid for fluorinated lubricants, oils and greases.

Their properties are similar to those of other fluorocarbon solvents which are no longer in use due to their environmental impact. These non flammable, chemically stable and non explosive solvents have a relatively fast evaporation rate and leave surfaces perfectly dry following evaporation.
